"the photograph isolates and perpetuates a moment of time: an important and revealing moment, or an unimportant and meaningless one, depending upon the photographer's understanding of his subject and mastery of his process"
- edward weston
photography, for me, evolved from a childhood fancy that took deep root and turned into a lasting passion, to a full time profession. studying and practicing architecture allowed me to bring about a synthesis of the two and this reflects not just in my architectural photography but even in the travel work...
a keen vagabond, i spend a lot of time on the road, sometimes this is coupled with assigned work.
experiencing newer cultures...studying vernacular architecture...absorbing crafts of different regions and where possible interacting and photographing the artisans, is a process i find stimulating and rewarding...
highly interested in our architectural heritage, i have been photographing it as and when time permits...the spatial complexity of traditional architecture, its attention to detail, the incorporation of crafts and its response to climate always makes me wonder where these principles got diluted in the process of india's so called 'modernization'
i've also been photographing modern architecture being practiced today and trying to capture it's clean-lined essence in a few pictures is increasingly becoming challenging...i've drawn a lot from my interactions with varied professionals and their approaches...
my professional time has always had an allowance for passing on what i know and this has had me conducting photography workshops or going as visiting faculty to several design institutions.
i'm available for freelance photography commissions. do get in touch with me with specifics of the job you have in mind. any thoughts on the images on this website shall be highly appreciated.
